 evidence is a key component of a successful claim or appeal for a total 
 disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU). Join Maria 
 Vargas and Ashley Johnson as they discuss important issues to consider 
 when obtaining vocational evidence\, including the qualifications of an 
 expert and the methodology of vocational assessments. The presenters will 
 address vocational issues using VA terminology\; consider specific 
 challenges of cases involving mental limitations\; and discuss marginal 
 employment and protected work environments. They will also analyze the 
 impact of the CAVC&rsquo\;s decision in Ray v. Wilkie\, 31 Vet.App. 58 
 (2019)\, which addressed the economic and noneconomic components of what 
 it means to be &ldquo\;unable to secure and follow substantially gainful 
 employment.&rdquo\; Maria Vargas is the owner of Vargas Vocational 
 Consulting. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Master
  of Science Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of 
 North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Maria has been qualified as an expert 
 witness in federal courts across the United States. Ashley Johnson is the 
 Vice President of Expert Services. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree 
 in Psychology and a Master of Science Degree in Rehabilitation Psychology 
 and Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Both 
 Maria and Ashley are vocational experts and life care planners who work on
