2022 Spring Conference

17 Mar 2022 @ 8:00am MDT
19 Mar 2022 @ 4:00pm MDT
Event Details

The conference will increase your knowledge, confidence, and expertise in representing veterans before the Department of
Veterans Affairs, Board of Veterans' Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

New Schedule Format: We are excited to announce a new format for the Spring 2022 Conference in Scottsdale!

We will begin by hosting our General Session and exhibits on Thursday & Friday (3/17 & 3/18).  The reception will be held on Thursday evening.  Based on comments from previous conference surveys, we are shifting some of our standard programming to new time slots and we’ve added a speaker Q&A session at the end of the day on Friday.

Our Basic Session will be held on Saturday, 3/19, with a smaller “workshop” design.  Lunch will be provided.  Attendees will be in four breakout rooms (holding approximately 40 people per room).  The presenters will “travel” from room to room so attendees will participate in every session during the course of the day, with ample opportunity for questions/discussion with the presenters and your fellow attendees.

Hybrid Option:  For the Spring 2022 conference, NOVA will offer a hybrid option for our General Session ONLY on Thursday and Friday (3/17 & 3/18, 2022). Attendees who are unable to travel to attend the conference in person can register to attend via our virtual platform.  Please note, due to the format of the Basic Session, which will be held on Saturday (3/19, 2022), we are UNABLE to offer a hybrid option for that day of sessions.

Regardless of whether you attend the General Session in person or virtually, you will receive all relevant materials, watch the sessions live, and be able to participate in the Q&A portion of the session via the Conferences I/O app.  NOVA has the ability to convert to a fully virtual event should there be any shutdowns due to the pandemic.  Please be sure to select the correct option when you register.

Health and Safety Requirements:

  • As we did for the fall event, all in-person attendees must provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19 in advance.  The CDC currently states an individual is fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.  Please note: Should the CDC modify the definition to include a booster, we will require proof of a booster.  We do not store your vaccine card copies, but if you attended the fall conference, you will not need to resubmit your information.  At this time and for this conference, there will be no exceptions made.
  • You will be required to sign a new waiver. Please send vaccination proof and waiver to Katy Whalen by March 4.
  • NOVA will follow the masking requirements of the locality at the time of the conference.  Currently, Scottsdale does not require masks in indoor public spaces.

Hotel Room Block:  The Scottsdale Plaza Resort does not have availability outside of our room block during our event – once our block sells out the hotel will not have additional rooms available.  Due to the limited availability, we ask that you only book ONE room per attendee.  If you need to book multiple rooms for your firm, please be sure to assign every room to a unique attendee who is registered to attend the conference.  If you book multiple rooms under one name, we will CANCEL any additional rooms immediately.

The Room Block Rate at The Scottsdale Plaza Resort is $235 plus tax, per night, single and double occupancy, and is available three days prior and three days after the conference based upon room availability.

All reservations must be made by Monday, February 14, for the NOVA rate to be honored. Please book your hotel room early as space is limited and the NOVA room block always fills before the deadline.

Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Requirements: NOVA conferences are usually fully accepted for CLE purposes. We pre-apply for approval to states in which we have a certain number of attendees seeking credit. If we do not pre-apply, we provide the state application form for you to submit on your own along with your certificate of attendance.

NOVA uses sign-in sheets each day to record your attendance. We want to remind you that all CLE procedures, including requiring attendees to sign in, are based on the rules and regulations put forward by various state bars. NOVA is required to follow such rules. While they do vary state to state, accurately signing in to prove your attendance at either a virtual or in-person event is required by every jurisdiction that monitors CLE. As such, please do not sign in for any sessions you haven’t attended. If you leave early, please note as such on the sign-in form. If you fail to properly sign in, we cannot process your CLE credits.

As NOVA continues to grow, we will be monitoring our CLE procedures over the next several events.  We may need to implement stricter sign-in/out policies based on those observations.  Thanks for your cooperation.

Think the desert is all dirt and tumbleweeds? Think again. Desert Botanical Garden is home to thousands of species of cactus, trees and flowers from all around the world spread across 55 acres in Phoenix, Arizona.  The Gardens are pleased to host the Chihuly in the Desert showcase again this spring.

Chihuly in the Desert showcases Dale Chihuly’s stunning, large-scale installations nestled among the Garden’s world-class collection of desert plants. Featuring installations on the Garden’s trails complemented by a major indoor gallery in Dorrance Hall, the dynamic exhibition includes never-before-seen installations and is a must-see throughout the seasons.

Visit the gardens with fellow conference attendees on Friday, March 18, at 6:30pm. Please note, transportation will not be provided for this event.  Attendees will be responsible for securing their own transportation via a service such as Uber or Lyft.  The gardens are a 15-20 minute drive from the resort.

Price? $37.95 per person. The tickets are non-refundable.

Space is limited and is first-come, first-serve.  Please register by Friday, March 11!
