Congratulations to Brandy Disbennett-Albrecht who received the Distinguished Advocate Award at NOVA’s Spring 2023 Conference! The Distinguished Advocate Award is designed to recognize talent deserving wider recognition, specifically those who work in niche areas of VA law, often without recognition and/or contribute in some other quiet way to the betterment of NOVA and/or the veterans law profession.
Ms. Disbennett-Albrecht has dedicated her entire legal career to advocating for disabled veterans. Her connection to the veterans community goes back to her youth; she comes from a military family that includes her grandparents, father, and sister, and she grew up on military bases immersed in both active duty and veteran communities. She has worked with the Rhode Island Veterans Home and participated in a Veterans Research Internship Project with the UMD Memorial Chapel.
She has published and presented on various veteran-related topics, and was a recipient of the Coast Guard Foundation’s RADM Arnold Sobel Scholarship for four years of undergraduate study.
She founded and continues to run the Veterans Law Practicum at Washington & Lee University School of Law, volunteers to coach the W & L moot court team, regularly volunteers as a judge for the National Veterans Law Moot Court Competition, and is a member of the board of governors of the Virginia State Bar Military Law Section. Brandy was also appointed to serve on the Virginia State Bar’s Standing Committee on Access to Legal Services in 2020. She currently works at Greene & Marusak, LLC.
NOVA is pleased to bestow this honor on Brandy in recognition of her talent and contributions!
